Russia committed 148 crimes against journalists and the media during the month of the war against Ukraine. The occupiers are killing and kidnapping journalists, capturing newsrooms and blowing up TV towers. This was reported by the Institute of Mass Media.

  • The occupiers killed five journalists, who worked on their duty, and wounded seven. One journalist went missing.
  • More than 70 media outlets were forced to stop working due to the capture of editorial offices, threats and temporary occupation.
  • The occupiers fired on 10 TV towers, which are civilian targets, causing the complete or temporary disappearance of television and radio broadcasting in eight regions of Ukraine.
  • Six cases of kidnapping of journalists have been reported. Some of them were tortured.

As is known the occupiers also kidnapped hromadske journalist Victoria Roshchina in the temporarily occupied Berdyansk, where she covered the events. On March 21, she was released from captivity. Now Roshchina is in the territory controlled by the Ukrainian government.

Comment: Oksana Romanyuk, director of the Institute of Mass Information:
