Speaking via video call at the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House), President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that today Mariupol is an example of how Russia makes civilians starve.
Zelenskyy stressed that neither international organizations nor the Ukrainian side can deliver humanitarian aid to Mariupol due to the actions of the Russian military and their inhuman treatment, and civilians are forced to drink from puddles because of the thirst.
“Inhumanity and cruelty – this is how the Russian military treats people. Death is not caused by war. This is not fighting. This is torture. This is terrorism,” Zelenskyy replied emotionally to the given question.
The President also reminded us that the whole of Mariupol is completely destroyed, and the unblocking of the city is possible only if Ukraine is provided with relevant weapons.
Regarding the situation at Azovstal, Zelenskyy added that he would not be able to continue negotiations with Russia if their troops killed people who could be exchanged or evacuated.
