The European Parliament resolution supports granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership

The European Parliament supported the resolution, which recommended that the European Union institutions grant Ukraine the status of a candidate country for EU membership.

The document calls on the European Union to work on granting Ukraine a candidate status in the bloc in accordance with Article 49 of the Treaty on European Union. The resolution is then forwarded to the relevant EU bodies and Member States for decision.

It should be noted that the resolutions of the European Parliament are not binding, but advisory.

We remind that eight European Union countries have called for Ukraine to join the bloc under an accelerated procedure.

Comment: «We, the presidents of the EU member states: the Republic of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of Poland, the Slovak Republic and the Republic of Slovenia firmly believe that Ukraine deserves immediate accession.

We therefore call on the EU Member States to consolidate Ukraine’s highest political support and enable the EU institutions to take steps to immediately grant Ukraine EU candidate status and start the negotiation process.

At this critical moment, we reaffirm our full solidarity with Ukraine and its people, » was written in the letter.
