Shelling of the Zaporizhya NPP. The International Atomic Energy Agency works 24/7

On the night of March 4, Russian terrorist forces fired on the territory of the Zaporizhya NPP. Due to this, a fire broke out, the first power unit was hit. The danger was localized thanks to the actions of the SES of Ukraine in the Zaporizhya region. As a result of the night assault, three people were killed and two others were injured.

Comment: President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky

“We experienced a night that could have stopped history. History of Ukraine, history of Europe. Russian troops attacked the Zaporizhya nuclear power plant. It is like six Chornobyls. Russian tankers knew what they were firing. This is terror of an unprecedented level.”

So the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has moved its Incident and Emergency Center to a round-the-clock operation.

Comment: Agency Chairman Rafael Mariano Grossi

“I spoke with the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal; The IAEA monitors and is in close contact with the regulator and operator of nuclear energy in Ukraine. I ask the parties to refrain from actions that could endanger the nuclear power plant.”
