The New Zealand government has decided to accept about 4,000 refugees from Ukraine.
This was announced by Immigration Minister Chris Faafoy.
Under the new policy, parents and other family members of Ukrainians in New Zealand living in Ukraine will be able to come to the country.
Comment: Immigration Minister Chris Faafoi:
“The government is increasing the unprecedented scale of humanitarian aid to the crisis with Ukrainian refugees, introducing a new Special Policy on Ukraine for 2022. The policy will allow New Zealand citizens born in Ukraine and residents to bring members of their Ukrainian family whose lives are in danger due to Russian aggression. “
Such a policy will operate in the country for one year.
The minister also added that New Zealand was quick to condemn the brutal and intolerable invasion of Ukraine by taking urgent measures to respond to Russia’s hostility, imposing travel bans, export controls, passing the 2022 Russia Sanctions Act and providing funding to support important humanitarian activities.
