Government estimates: Almost 5,000 people killed in Mariupol, 170,000 remain under siege

150,000 people have been evacuated from Mariupol since the beginning of the blockade, but 170,000 more people remain in the besieged city. According to preliminary estimates, nearly 5,000 people have been killed.

Details: The city of Mariupol has been under siege for 28 days, since 1 March.

According to a government estimate, as of 27 March nearly 5,000 people have been killed, including 210 children. It is currently impossible to establish the exact number of victims.

140,000 Mariupol residents left this coastal city before the Russian siege began.

Since the beginning of the Russian blockade, 150,000 have been evacuated: 71,235 left for the city of Zaporizhzhia, others to the surrounding towns and villages.

170,000 people remain under siege.

30,000 people have been deported by the Russian troops, forcefully taken to the occupied territories in the east of Ukraine or to Russia.
