NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg says Russia is not withdrawing troops, as recently announced, but is only relocating them in an attempt to regroup and step up the offensive in the Donbas region.

He also said that the alliance is not yet convinced that Russia is honestly holding peace talks in Istanbul, as Moscow’s military goal has not changed since the invasion of Ukraine.

“We have heard recent statements that Russia will curtail hostilities around Kyiv and northern Ukraine. But Russia has repeatedly lied about its intentions. Therefore, Russia can be judged only by its actions, not by its words. According to our intelligence, Russian units are not leaving, but moving. Russia is trying to regroup, replenish supplies and intensify the offensive in the Donbass region. “
Stoltenberg emphasized that NATO countries will continue to supply weapons to Ukraine to “necessity”.
On March 29, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced a decision to “significantly reduce hostilities in Kyiv and Chernihiv.” However, despite the limited number of withdrawn troops, the Russian occupation forces continued to hold positions east and west of Kyiv, according to the British Ministry of Defense. In this regard, British intelligence expects fierce fighting on the outskirts of Kiev in the coming days.
