A pensioner from Chernihiv region, who helped border guards shoot down a Russian Su-34 fighter jet in March, was awarded a medal.
This was reported by the State Border Service of Ukraine.
In March, when the Russian occupiers continuously bombarded Chernihiv, pensioner Valery Fedorovych took his rifle and opened fire on the enemy Su-34. He managed to hit a Russian fighter, after which it fell.
The pensioner, whom the border guards simply call Fedorovych, left a part of the downed plane as a memorial. For selflessness, the head of the border service, Serhii Deineko, awarded the pensioner with the medal “For assistance in the protection of the state border.”
